Length: 2 1/4"
Grade: 9
Description: Although at first glance this looks like it could be a much younger point in age, this definitely is a Paleo Suwanee Point. The heavy grinding on the base all the way up to just over 1/2" on the lateral blade edges is one indication. Another is a technic in the manufacture of almost all Suwannee Points where-in a cross-over flake scar occurs just above the base on one side. This one has that scar, which goes completely across from one side and out the other side in one fail swoop! (See arrows in Fig. 5) A couple of percussion flakes have been driven off along the blade edge on one side that partially obscure this big flake scar, but you can see it was there. It is fascinating to me, how these ancient Paleo People made these projectile spear tips the same exact way everytime.
Provenance: Found on private property with permission, Pasco Co. Florida.
