Length: 8 1/2"
Grade: 10
Description: Exceptionally rare Early Woodland biconical tube pipe made from dark polished soapstone. Large, well-balanced example with a defined central waist and excellent symmetry.
Shows classic pecking, grinding, and smoothing, with strong patina and authentic age. Notable for its size and presence—far above average for this type. The hole was formed by using a cheisel of stone or antler.
Biconical tube pipes are widely associated with early Native American medicine men and ceremonial healing practices. Historical accounts describe tubes being used to suck or blow, symbolically removing illness from the body or directing healing energy, placing these pieces firmly within a ceremonial context and were not common everyday use items.
Provenance: Found on private property with permission, Chattahoochee River Basin, Troup Co. Georgia near Franklin.
