~ Rainbow River ~ Paleo Uniface ~ Hendrix Scraper ~
Length: 3"
Grade: 10
Description: Found near the headwaters of the Rainbow River many years ago before it became a State Park in 1990. An equisite Hendrix Paleo Blade made for scraping and cutting with a sharp tip that could have used as a punch. The uniface flaking is a trait of Paleo stone tool kits. Because it is so white, the flaking doesn't picture well, but in the hand you can clearly see all the carefully placed flaking. Since you cannot now legally collect from this area, this is a rare opportunity to be a steward and conservator of this fine piece. Natives Americans have been coming to this crystal clear 1st magniture Spring, (Rainbow Springs) for over 10,000 years. It is the 4th largest by volume in Florida producing over 600 million gals of fresh spring water everyday. The Rainbow is 5.7 miles long and then it dumps into the Withlacoochee River in Dunnellon.
Provenance: Found on private property with permission in Southwestern Marion Co. Florida.
