Description: Tick Island Drilled Cooking Stone. Made of soft Limestone. These were heated near a fire and dropped into a container to bring the food to boil. Similar to the Soap Stone Cooking Stone found during the Late Archaic Era in the Savannah River Valley in Georgia and South Carolina. Found within the shell middens that were extracted by a commercial dragline and barge operation that operated during the early 1970's. (see the last picture)
Provenance: Found on private property with permission from an old collection Tick island Volusia Co. Florida.
