Length: 6 1/2"
Grade: 10
Description: This artifact is a remarkably well preserved Native American fishing spear or harpoon tip. Complete down to the finest detail. Unusally long and thin. Meticullously crafted from a Deer Cannon Bone. These bones were carefully split, ground down to sharp points and socketed into spears. To enhance their effectiveness, addiional bone spurs, or spikes (Called Lister barbs) were affixed to the sides using natural adhesives and bindings, creating a multi-pronged gig. This design made them particularly useful for fishing from dugout canoes, allowing indegenous hunters to skillfully harpoon fish in shallow waters.
