Description: Among the rarest items to be found in the southeastern US is preserved wooden artifacts like this cordage spool. Likely used to hold and carry fishing line. Hundreds of bone fish hooks have been found over the decades, but this is a first for me to see this. The notches on either end could accomodate the fishing line and then the little hole could be where the end of the line could have been pigeon holed into it to keep it all in place. Discoved many years ago near Dunnellon Florida in the muck of a swamp.
