Length: 4 3/8
Grade: 9
Description: From an extinct species of primitive Whale called a Zygorhiza. Zygorhiza was a huge, primitive, toothed whale that lived during the Eocene period (38 to 34 million years ago) and grew to about 50-60 feet in length. It was the top predator of its environment, preying on sharks, large fish and other marine mammals. This is a posterior cheek tooth; the rarest of their teeth, because they tend to break apart. Beautiful fossil with wonderful brown enamel. Found with the crack and glued back together. These are extreme rare to find this big (Size Matters) and this complete. This is NOT an African Moroccan tooth, this is from South Carolina.
Provenance: Found in the phoshate mines of Beaufort Co. South Carolina
