Description: Poverty Point Objects (PPOs) are hand-molded, fired clay balls dating to the Late Archaic period (1700–1100 BC). Created by the people of Poverty Point in northeastern Louisiana, they were heated in fires and used as cooking stones to roast food and boil water in containers. Produced in several standardized shapes, PPOs are among the most recognizable artifacts of this remarkable prehistoric culture.
