Description: This huge Benton Blade is made of heat treated Ocala Chert and was found on Sweetwater Creek in Paines Prairie off Williston Road in Marion Co.Florida.The median date for the Benton Cluster is 5400 BP. These were first recorded at the Benton Mound in Cherokee Co. Alabama on the Tennessee River. Bentons were made in large numbers with extreme lengths and were traded all over the southeast. While not rare in Florida they are somewhat scarce. And this is a particularly fine colorful example.
