Ice Age ~ Pleistocene Alligator Tail Fin Bone ~ Osteoderm Scute

Length: 1 1/4" Tall

Description: Underneath the tuff hide of an alligator's back is rows and rows of armor plating in the form of boney scutes or scales. The raised ridges on their backs are formed by these scales under the hide. This Scute pictured here is from the tail section of the animal (note the high ridge).
