Late Archaic -Woodland Steatite Tallied and Drilled ~ Gorget

Description: 2 Holed Steatite/Soapstone Gorget. This relic was salvaged from a broken Bowl fragment, as evidenced by the curvature of the piece. A total of 47 Tally marks or grooves can be found on all sides. There is also evidence of this being an even a larger Gorget at one time because you can clearly see remnants of 2 previous drilled holes where it broke out on the ends. Gorget are always rarely found personal items of adornment.
Provenance: Found on private property with permission in Floyd Co. Georgia; Coosa Valley. Ex: Ray Kilgore collection
