Quality Artifacts and Fossils From the Southeast
Lake Padgett ~ Suwannee Point
Lake Pagett ~ Suwannee Point
Length: 2 1/4"
Grade: 8
Description: Made of a combination of translucent blueish Chalcedony near the tip and cream-colored Chert on the bottom half. The lateral edges of the lower part of the blade are ground, as is the base. Collateral flaking is present across the blade. The artisan ingeniously worked the natural rindy inclusion to the side near the base so as to still have a functioning cutting blade. Repeated attempts to thin the base via percussion flaking was rebuffed with only minimal success as can be seen by the numerous hinge fractures on both sides of the base.
Provenance: Found on private property with permission in Pasco Co. at the famous Lake Padgett Site. The site was actively producing artifacts during the 1980'2 and 90's. Now a housing subdivision. Pasco Co. Florida
