Description: Finely crafted by a Creek Indian during the mid to late 1700's, this exceptional Pipe is beautifully smoothed and polished, made from high grade banded Claystone. The small projection beneath the barrel represents the front site of a Musket, giving rise to its name - the 'Gun Barrel' Pipe. It would have been joined to a long, carved wooden pipe stem, often adorned with feathers or other decorations. A great amount of work went into selecting the stone, carving, drilling and polishing such a highly personal object, likely held and smoked for many years. A fine example of Creek craftsmanship from the Historic period.
